247sports analyst has Olu Fashanu in top 10 of updated mock draft

Penn State’s first-team All-American offensive lineman, Olu Fashanu, continues to be hyped as a first-round draft prospect leading up to this year’s NFL draft, and many draft analysts believe he could go within the first 10 picks of the selection process. A newly updated mock draft from 247Sports analyst Blake Brockenmeyer agrees with that draft outlook for Fashanu.

Brockenmeyer’s second update to his mock draft, his 2.0 version, projects Fashanu will be heading to the New York Jets with the no. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft later this spring. Brockenmeyer says that addresses a major need for the franchise, which will go into the 2024 season hoping to get a full year out of last season’s big acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“He made a mistake not coming out last season, but still has a bright future ahead and room for more improvement,” Brockenmeyer said in his summary of Fashanu. Fashanu opted to return for one more year at Penn State instead of declaring for the 2023 NFL draft, when he was expected to be a first-round player.

For the sake of comparison, ESPN’s Mel Kiper also has Fashanu currently projected to go to the Jets with the no. 10 overall pick. NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah has Fashanu going no. 13 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Brockenmeyer has Fashanu as the second offensive lineman off the big board in his mock draft. Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt is projected with the no. 7 pick by the Tennessee Titans ahead of Fashanu’s current slot.

Brockenmeyer has a second Nittany Lions projected in his first round mock draft as well. Defensive end Chop Robinson is projected at pick no. 19 by the Los Angeles Rams in Brockenmeyer’s updated mock draft.

“The Rams could use some edge pressure and Robinson has the next highest upside left in a weak overall group,” Brockenmeyer said. Robinson is the fourth edge rusher to be picked in Brockenmeyer’s mock draft. Alabama‘s Dallas Turner is projected to go no. 8 to the Atlanta Falcons, Florida State’s Jared Verse is projected at no. 11 by the Minnesota Vikings, and UCLA‘s Laiatu Latu is projected to go at no. 16 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Kiper has Robinson projected to go a little later in the first round of the draft. Kiper has Robinson going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the no. 26 overall pick. Jeremiah has Robinson heading to the Houston Texans with the no. 23 overall pick,
