The 2024 Paris Olympics are coming up. Here's your guide and Arizona athletes competing

The Olympic flame was lit at the archeological site of Olympia, Greece, on Tuesday.

Tradition calls for the flame to be lit by sun rays reflected off a mirror and the fire symbolizes peace and friendship among neighboring countries. The extravagant event of lighting the torch links the game's ancient origins to the modern celebration before the flame takes a journey to this year's Olympic city where it will kick off the summer games.

Although these festivities are happening on the other side of the world, Arizonans can prepare to watch the games from the comfort of their own homes.

Here is everything we know so far about the 2024 Olympic Games.

When is the Summer Olympics?

The 2024 Summer Olympics will begin with its traditional opening ceremony on July 26. The games will run through Aug. 11.

The 2024 Paralympics will take place this summer from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.

Where is the 2024 Summer Olympics?

The games will be held in Paris, a decision announced in September 2017.

The opening ceremony will be held along the Seine River. Athletes will compete around the city, including beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower Stadium and equestrian at the Palace of Versailles.

Which Arizonan athletes are competing?

As the 2024 Olympians are being revealed, it is fun to see which Arizona stars will represent the country in the games.

Phoenix Suns players Devin Booker and Kevin Durant were selected among nearly a dozen other NBA players to play for the USA basketball team. Steph Curry, LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis were also selected for the USA basketball team.

How many years apart is the Summer Olympics held?

The Olympics are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer events. The next Winter Games will be held in 2026 in Italy; the next Summer Games will take place in 2028 in Los Angeles — the first time the games will be held in the U.S. in more than 20 years.

Do Olympians get paid?

Although Olympians do not get paid, athletes are typically offered benefits like tax relief, education funding and tuition grants and health care, according to NBC. Olympians can also expand their brand and take advantage of marketing opportunities from the games.

How can you get tickets?

Ticketing for the games and opening and closing ceremonies are open internationally on a first-come, first-served basis. The final ticket resale will take place on April 17 at 10 a.m. for all sports and can be found here.
