2024 NFL Draft recap: Tracker, picks, trades, analysis from Thursday's first round
The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books.
And it was an interesting one.
Six quarterbacks went in the Top 12 picks and a record 23 offensive players were taken in the 32 picks on Thursday night.
The first three players picked were quarterbacks, with Caleb Williams going to the Chicago Bears, Jayden Daniels ending up with the Washington Commanders and Drake Maye landing with the New England Patriots.
The Arizona Cardinals picked wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 4. The Los Angeles Chargers rounded out the Top 5 picks by selecting tackle Joe Alt at No. 5.

Carolina Panthers trade up, take South Carolina WR Xavier Legette at No. 32
The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books and it ended with the Carolina Panthers moving up a spot to grab South Carolina WR Xavier Legette at No. 32.
Last season, Legette had 71 catches for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Panthers land Xavier Legette, who has an incredible combination of power, explosion, speed and run after catch.
He was a big play waiting to happen last season.

San Francisco 49ers select Florida WR Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 in NFL Draft
An ASU football transfer was taken with the second pick of the NFL Draft (Jayden Daniels) and another former ASU player was taken with the second-to-last pick in the first round, with the 49ers picking Florida WR Ricky Pearsall at No. 31.
Pearsall is the second former Arizona high school player picked, joining Jordan Morgan. Pearsall had 65 catches, 965 yards, 4 TDs in senior season at Florida. He had 1,626 receiving yards, caught 9 TD passes and rushed for 3 more TDs in 2 years at Florida.

Baltimore Ravens take Clemson CB Nate Wiggins at No. 30 in 2024 NFL Draft
The Ravens enhanced their secondary with their first-round NFL Draft pick, adding Clemson CB Nate Wiggins.
Wiggins has returned two interceptions for touchdowns and will provide a big left for Baltimore.

Dallas Cowboys trade back into first round, take Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton at No. 29
Dak Prescott has some more protection in 2024, with the Cowboys selecting Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton at No. 29.
Played in 29 games (nine at TCU and 20 at Oklahoma). Started in 14 games at Oklahoma.
The #Cowboys stick at No. 29 and take #Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton. This allows them to keep Tyler Smith at guard, if they desire.

Kansas City Chiefs trade up, land Texas WR Xavier Worthy with No. 28 pick in NFL Draft
The Buffalo Bills traded the No. 28 pick to the Chiefs, who took Texas WR Xavier Worthy, giving Patrick Mahomes a weapon at wide receiver.
Worthy has 197 catches, 2,755 yards, 26 TDs in 39 career games.
"This pick has got Andy Reid all over it," Nick Saban said on the ABC NFL Draft broadcast.

Arizona Cardinals take Missouri edge Darius Robinson with No. 27 pick in 2024 NFL Draft
The Cardinals didn't waste any time with their second first-round 2024 NFL Draft pick, making the selection with a lot of time left on the clock.
They chose Missouri edge Darius Robinson, who should help the Cardinals' pass rush next season.
In 47 games played he had 111 tackles, 21 TFLs, 13 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR. "Really a great leader," Kirk Herbstreit said of Robinson on the ABC NFL Draft broadcast.
At No. 27, the #AZCardinals take DT Darius Robinson from Mizzou. They entered free agency with a big need there, and fill it in the Draft.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers go with Duke C Graham Barton at No. 26
The Buccaneers grabbed a center at No. 26 in Graham Barton.
Barton spent most of his time at left tackle in a career that saw him become Duke’s most consistent offensive lineman for a Blue Devil offense that was known for its run game in 2023.

Green Bay Packers select Arizona OT Jordan Morgan with No. 25 NFL draft pick
Jordan Morgan, who went to Marana High School near Tucson, was picked by the Green Bay Packers at No. 25.
Morgan appeared in all 12 games for the Wildcats last season, allowing just two sacks in 787 snaps. The Wildcats had the fifth best red zone offense in college football, converting 93% of the time.

Detroit Lions select Alabama CB Terrion Arnold with No. 24 pick in NFL Draft after trade with Dallas Cowboys
The Lions traded up to land Alabama CB Terrion Arnold with the No. 24 pick. He had 63 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, 5 INT, 12 PD last season. In 2022 he had 45 tackles, 1 FR, 1 INT, 8 PD.

Jacksonville Jaguars land LSU WR Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 23 in NFL Draft 2024
A second LSU wide receiver is off the board, as the Jaguars traded up to No. 23 to land Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas Jr. had 1,897 yards receiving and 24 touchdowns in his career and will provide a weapon for the Jaguars at wide receiver.

Philadelphia Eagles select Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell with No. 22 draft pick
The Eagles went for help in the secondary with their pick of Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22.
In four seasons for Toledo, Mitchell picked off six passes (five in 2022, one in 2023), recorded 122 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He also recorded 52 passes defended (25 in 2022, 19 in 2023).

Miami Dolphins land Penn State edge Chop Robinson at No. 21 in 2024 NFL Draft
NFL teams can never have too many edge rushers. The Dolphins took one with the No. 21 pick, picking Chop Robinson out of Penn State.
Half of Robinson's total tackles (15) in 2023 were behind scrimmage for losses (7.5). Playing in just 10 games, he added four sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a pass breakup and five quarterback hurries.

Pittsburgh Steelers choose Washington OT Troy Fautanu with No. 20 pick
The Steelers chose a very emotional Troy Fautanu at No. 20, who grew up a huge fan of the Steelers.
Fautanu started all 15 games last season at left tackle. He started all 13 games in 2022, majority at left tackle with one start at left guard that season.

Los Angeles Rams select Florida State edge Jared Verse at No. 19 in 2024 NFL Draft
Another edge rusher is off the board with the Rams choosing Florida State's Jared Verse at No. 19. Yes, the Rams actually made a first-round NFL Draft pick after trading away so many in the Matthew Stafford deal.
During his college career at Albany and FSU, Verse recorded 164 tackles, 31.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and three forced fumbles over 39 games. He's recorded at least nine sacks in his last three seasons.
With their first first-round pick since drafting Jared Goff No. 1 overall eight years ago, the Rams select edge Jared Verse.

Cincinnati Bengals take Georgia OT Amarius Mims at No. 18 in NFL Draft
Another offensive tackle is off the board as the Bengals went with Georgia's Amarius Mims at No. 18.
Mims did not allow a sack and gave up just six quarterback pressures in 376 career pass blocks, according to Pro Football Focus. That'll do.

Minnesota Vikings trade for No. 17 pick, take Alabama DE Dallas Turner
The Vikings are dealing. This time they have moved up for Alabama DE Dallas Turner, making a deal with the Jacksonville Jagurs.
Turner had 53 tackles, 14.5 TFLs, 10 sacks in 2023. In his career he had 32.5 TFLs, 22.5 sacks. That's probably worth trading up for.

Seattle Seahawks go with Texas DT Byron Murphy II at No. 16 in first round
We have another defender now off the board in the draft in Byron Murphy II, who was picked by the Seahawks at No. 16. Murphy II had 70 tackles, 8 sacks, 15 TFL in 39 career games and could instantly help the Seahawks' defense.

Indianapolis Colts select UCLA edge Laiatu Latu at No. 15 in NFL draft
A defensive player has finally been picked in the 2024 NFL Draft. That player is UCLA edge Laiatu Latu, who was taken No. 15 overall by the Colts.
In two seasons for UCLA, Latu recorded 23.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss, forced five fumbles, picked off two passes, defended five passes and recovered one fumble. He spent the first three seasons of college with Washington, playing in 12 games as a freshman.

New Orleans Saints land Oregon State OT Taliese Fuaga with No. 14 pick in 2024 NFL Draft
We have another offensive tackle off the board with the Saints taking Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga at No. 14 overall.
Fuaga was ranked second nationally among offensive linemen with 88.2 Pro Football Focus overall grade; ranked first nationally with 90.9 run-blocking grade. The Saints need help on the offensive line and they appeared to get it.

Las Vegas Raiders get Georgia TE Brock Bowers at No. 13 in NFL Draft
The Las Vegas Raiders are another NFL team that could use a QB. With the consensus first-round QBs all off the board, it decided to take the best tight end in the draft, Georgia's Brock Bowers.
Bowers had 175 catches, 2,538 yards, 26 receiving touchdowns, 5 rushing touchdowns and 193 rushing yards in his college career and is expected to be a star in the NFL.

Denver Broncos draft Oregon QB Bo Nix with No. 12 overall pick in first round
We have another QB off the board, the sixth in the first 12. The Denver Broncos took Oregon QB Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick, giving themselves a QB to build around under coach Sean Payton.
How about these stats for Nix in his college career? 15,351 passing yards, 113 TD, 26 INT, 66.4% comp. (1,286-for-1,936); 1,613 rushing yards, 38 TD.

New York Jets land Penn State OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu at No. 11 in NFL Draft
Fashanu did not allow a sack in 382 pass-blocking snaps in 2023 and now will be tasked with protecting QB Aaron Rodgers for the Jets.

Minnesota Vikings trade up for No. 10 pick, select Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy
We have our first trade during the 2024 NFL Draft. The Vikings traded up one spot with the New York Jets to get Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy.
McCarthy was 482 of 713 passing (67.6% completions) for 6,226 passing yards, 49 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during his career for the Wolverines.

Chicago Bears land Washington WR Rome Odunze at No. 9 in NFL Draft 2024
We have back-to-back Huskies taken in the 2024 NFL Draft with the Bears taking WR Rome Odunze to provide an extra weapon for No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
Odunze ended his college career with his strongest season to date. In 2023, he caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns. Over his four seasons with Washington, Odunze had 214 catches for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Atlanta Falcons surprise with Michael Penix Jr. pick at No. 8 in NFL Draft
We have our first draft surprise as the Atlanta Falcons have taken Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8.
Yes, the Falcons, who signed Kirk Cousins to a big deal in the offseason. Penix Jr. gives Atlanta some insurance at the QB position, but it was a surprise.
In two seasons with Washington, Penix threw for 9,544 yards, 67 touchdowns and 19 interceptions while completing 65% of his passes. In four injury-riddled seasons at Indiana, Penix threw for 4,197 yards, 29 touchdowns and 15 picks.
Wow! Wow. Kirk Cousins has $100 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. Even if you get rid of him after 2025, Michael Penix will be 26 years old when he takes over in 2026.

Tennessee Titans select Alabama OT J.C. Latham at No. 7 in 2024 NFL Draft
We have another offensive lineman off the board, as the Titans have selected J.C. Latham out of Alabama at No. 7.
Latham was credited with 41 knockdown blocks last season, up from 29 in 2022. He only allowed two sacks in last two seasons (both in 2023).

New York Giants take LSU WR Malik Nabers at No. 6 in NFL Draft
Some thought the Giants might take a QB with this pick, but they opted for the second wide receiver in the draft, LSU's Malik Nabers, who shined for the Tigers in his career, with 3,003 yards receiving and 21 touchdowns.
"He's going to be a big-play guy in the National Football League," Nick Saban said on the ABC draft broadcast.

We have our first offensive lineman taken in the 2024 NFL Draft, Notre Dame tackle Joe Alt.
Alt made 33 straight starts at left tackle for the Fighting Irish and will now be an integral part in protecting Justin Herbert under new coach Jim Harbaugh.

Arizona Cardinals select Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 4 in 2024 NFL Draft
The Arizona Cardinals picked Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the No. 4 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-3 receiver has been described as a generational talent and is the son of former Colts and Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr.
It was the move that the Cardinals’ fanbase overwhelmingly seemed to favor leading up to the draft and it was the move the GM Monti Ossenfort ended up making, although a lot of rumors and speculation had surrounded the Cardinals potentially trading the pick leading up to the draft.
Harrison Jr. was the only receiver in Buckeyes’ history to have back-to-back, 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
The Cardinals currently also have the No. 27 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night, a pick they acquired in a draft day trade with the Houston Texans last season.

New England Patriots select Drake Maye with No. 3 pick in NFL Draft 2024
Quarterbacks have indeed gone 1-2-3 in the first round of the NFL Draft, with the Patriots taking North Carolina QB Drake Maye third overall.
Maye threw for 7,929 yards and 62 touchdowns, with 16 interceptions in his career. He rushed for 1,147 yards and 16 touchdowns. Many love his mindset and competitiveness and the Patriots, who had been rumored to be interested in trading the pick, decided to rebuild with him at the helm.

Washington Commanders take Jayden Daniels with No. 2 pick in 2024 NFL Draft
The second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is in and it is LSU QB Jayden Daniels.
Daniels had some crazy stats in his college career: 12,749 yards passing, 3,307 yards rushing, 106 passing touchdowns, 34 rushing touchdowns. The Heisman Trophy winner last season, Daniels started his career at Arizona State.
On the ABC broadcast, Nick Saban said Daniels needs to get bigger and stronger so that durability is not an issue with the QB in the NFL.

Chicago Bears pick Caleb Williams No. 1 overall in NFL Draft
The first pick in the NFL Draft was no surprise, the Chicago Bears took USC QB Caleb Williams.
Williams began his college career at Oklahoma, starting for the Sooners during the 2021 season. That year, he appeared in 11 games, throwing for 21 touchdowns, 1,912 yards and four picks. Over the next two seasons at USC, Williams piled it on, throwing for 72 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and 8,170 yards while competing 67.5% of his passes.
