This 2024 5-star running back’s visit to Florida was ‘exciting’

Florida football’s recruiting team is hosting a handful of 2023 prospects this weekend in Gainesville as head coach Billy Napier and his staff continue to push the program back into national title contention. However, the work does not stop with the current class — the prep prospect wars require a longitudinal outlook that plans ahead as far as possible.

The Gators got a great head start on the 2024 crop this past week when 5-star running back Stacy Gage out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy dropped in on the Swamp for an unofficial visit. Napier has made a point of focusing on the prolific athletic academy down I-75 and the 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pound sophomore represents a continuation of that policy.

“It was exciting because it was something new to me,” Gage told Swamp247. “It caught my eye. It was different and I felt good about it. I got to see the players work out, they took me for a tour, I talked with the running backs coach and met the new staff.

“They have a lot of history in their program, they develop guys and get guys into the league, the development is something I really like. I feel like they are one of my top schools now. I like them, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and a couple others right now.”

Gage is the No. 30 prospect overall and the No. 2 running back nationally in the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite, which gives him a five-star rating, while the On3 Consensus has him at No. 24 and No. 1, respectively, and a four-star rating. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Florida State Seminoles out front in the race for his talents with a 21.1% chance of landing him.
