The 2023 Times' Softball All-Stars
Every year, the Beaver County Times' sports staff and contributors vote on the Times Top 22 All-Stars for softball. Here are the picks from the 2023 season. The players are selected from the 21 high school programs in The Times' coverage area.
Aubrey Police, West Allegheny
A sophomore second baseman, Police played so well for West Allegheny that she earned first-team honors on the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association Class 5A all-state team. She had a .520 batting average with four home runs and 23 RBIs. She led the team with 38 runs scored.
Emily Nolan, West Allegheny
A senior first baseman, Nolan helped West Allegheny (19-2) reach the WPIAL quarterfinals by hitting .522 with six home runs and 32 RBIs. Nolan, who hit seven HRs last year as a junior, will play college softball at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia.
A.J. Arnal, West Allegheny
A senior who played center field, Arnal hit 435 with two homers and 22 RBIs. The next stop in her softball career will be St. Vincent College.
Elly Vicari-Baker, West Allegheny
A junior pitcher, Vicari-Baker started 16 of West Allegheny's 21 games and posted an 11-0 record. She had a 3.40 earned run average with 74 strikeouts in 86 and 1/3 innings of pitching.
Ava Karpa, Moon Area
A senior shortstop who was the Tigers’ captain, Karpa led the team in hitting (.544), home runs (four), RBIs (23) and runs scored (23). She’ll play college softball at Westminster.
M.J. D’Aniello, Moon Area
A junior who played center field for the Tigers (6-10), D’Aniello hit .381 with 19 RBIs and three triples.
Izzie LeFebvre, Western Beaver
A sophomore first baseman, LeFebvre earned second-team honors on the 5A all-state team. She hit .500 with 12 RBIs and five home runs.
Shaylyn Shall, Western Beaver
A junior who played center field, Shall earned first-team all-state honors. She led the Golden Beavers with a .633 batting average. Shall attends Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School which has a co-op agreement in softball with Western Beaver.
Emma Bogacki, Western Beaver
A sophomore pitcher, Bogacki played a major role in the Golden Beavers going 5-5 in section play after going a combined 0-19 the previous two seasons. She posted a 4-5 pitching record while striking out 143 hitters in 82 innings of pitching. As a hitter, she led the team with 25 RBIs.
Jordyn Glumac, Hopewell
A junior catcher, Glumac hit .470, led the Vikings with four HRs and shared the team lead with 21 RBIs.
Mya Parish, Hopewell
A junior pitcher, Parish helped the Vikings (10-7) make the playoffs by posting a 6-1 record. In 76 and 1/3 innings, she recorded 118 strikeouts.
Mia Shroads, Central Valley
A senior third baseman, Shroads hit .322 with a team-high three home runs and 17 RBIs for the Warriors (9-6).
Macy Littler, Central Valley
A senior outfielder who’s a left-handed slap hitter, Littler had one of the highest batting averages in the WPIAL for the second straight season by hitting .642. Last year, she hit .645. A Youngstown State recruit, she led the Warriors with 28 runs scored and 21 stolen bases. She had 28 steals last year.
Julia Nardone, Ellwood City
A junior third baseman, Nardone hit .415 and led the Wolverines (11-6) with 26 runs scored and four HRs. She also walked 20 times this past season.
Aliya Garroway, Ellwood City
A senior shortstop who’ll continue her softball career at St. Francis (PA) University, Garroway hit .386. In 190 plate appearances during her career, she only struck out 11 times.
Amber McQuiston, Ellwood City
A freshman pitcher, McQuiston posted an 8-5 record and a 1.97 earned run average. In 85 and 1/3 innings, she recorded 96 strikeouts. Opponents only batted .185 against her. Offensively, McQuiston hit .315 and led the Wolverines with 23 RBIs.
Danielle Rosenberger, Riverside
A sophomore outfielder, Danielle hit a team-high .523 during the regular season for the Panthers (12-5), who made it to the WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinals.
Samantha Rosenberger, Riverside
A senior pitcher, Samantha will continue her softball career at Barry University, in Miami, Florida. She threw a no-hitter in the Panthers’ 14-0 win over Fort Cherry in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. Rosenberger struck out 13 batters and did not issue a walk in the four-inning game. She finished regular-season play with a 9-4 pitching record while hitting .548.
Juliette Vybiral, OLSH
A senior outfielder, Vybiral earned first-team Class 2A all-state honors. A Seton Hill University recruit, she led the team in hitting during the regular season with a .560 average and then hit .636 in the playoffs. She also led the team with five home runs and 39 runs scored, and also racked up 26 RBIs.
Justena Giles, OLSH
A senior pitcher who’ll play college softball at Carlow University, Giles was the Beaver County Times’ 2023 Softball Player of the Year. A resident of McKees Rocks, she had a 13-4 pitching record this season for the Chargers (14-5), who advanced to the WPIAL semifinals. She set a program record with 35 career wins in the pitching circle while striking out 262 batters in 270 innings pitched with a career 2.72 ERA. At the plate, she hit .502 this season with three home runs and 28 RBIs. She finished her OLSH with 10 HRs.
Morgan O'Brien, OLSH
A junior third baseman, O’Brien sparkled offensively and defensively. Almost impressive as her hitting stats -- .472 average, four HRs and a team-high 31 RBIs – was her .910 fielding percentage.
Alison Delong, South Side
A junior shortstop, Delong hit .483 for the Rams (8-6) with 24 runs scored and 17 RBIs. In addition to the 20 times she walked, she compiled a .706 on-base percentage.
