2023 AHSAA All-Star Baseball Game ends in tie: How Montgomery-area players performed
The 2023 AHSAA North vs. South All-Star baseball game will end in a tie at Riverwalk Stadium for the fourth time in history. This was the 43rd All-Star baseball game, and the North leads the series 23-16-4.
Brent Mosely from Hewitt Trussville was named the North All-Star MVP and Gabriel Benton from Benjamin Russell was named South All-Star MVP.
Four Montgomery-area athletes represented the South: Holtville's Brandon "Drey" Barrett (IF/P), Saint James' Clinton Houser (OF/IF), Pike Road's Drew Britton (SS/P), and LAMP's Andrew Lutz (C/P).
"It feels good to be here. Being selected just showed that a lot of people liked what they see in my game so I'm excited for the game," Houser said. "All day coach has been telling us to stay calm and enjoy this moment because this is only to showcase our talents."
In Game One, the North team defeated the South 11-4 after scoring five runs in the first inning. Britton scored the first run for the South team in the bottom of the second inning.
Houser was walked twice in game one and stole a base to second before picking up an RBI in the bottom of the 7th inning.
"It feels good to have the home field advantage with the game being here in Montgomery because some of the guys traveled two plus hours just to get here," Houser said. "Everyone on the team has been getting along well I met some cool guys and we are all just honored to be here."

Coming off a 5A state championship run with Holtville High this year, Barrett, a Southern Mississippi baseball commit, was the starting pitcher for the South Team in game one. In the top of the third inning of game two, Barrett stole second and home to get his first RBI of the evening.
Game two finished in a 5-5 tie through seven innings and Houser collected his second RBI and stolen base of the evening in the top of the sixth inning.
@Houser_Clint picks up his 2nd RBI of the evening in game two as the South leads 5-3 in the top of the 6th.
