2022 NFL Draft: John Metchie III selected at No. 44 overall to the Houston Texans
Former Alabama WR John Metchie III was selected No. 44 overall in the 2022 NFL draft to the Houston Texans. The pick initially belonged to the Browns, however, the Texans gave up picks 78, 108, and 124 to select Metchie.
Metchie was a two year starter for the Crimson Tide playing alongside future first round picks Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, and Jameson Williams.
During his time in Tuscaloosa, Metchie amassed 155 catches, 2081 yards, and 14 scores. Metchie was instrumental in the Tide’s 2020-2021 national title run, and is also a two-time recipient of the John Cornish Trophy, which is awarded to the top Canadian in college football.
Unfortunately Metchie’s final collegiate season was cut short after suffering a torn ACL in the SECCG. However, he has responded well to the injury and should have the green light for training camps.
Metchie looks to compete for a starting position day one in Houston with a less than stellar receiving core.
