2 homers from LaViolette propels Texas A&M baseball team to win versus UIW and 4-0 start

The Texas A&M baseball team’s hot start to the 2024 season continued Tuesday at Blue Bell Park against a new opponent that was also unbeaten but that didn’t matter to Jace LaViolette.

The superstar sophomore outfielder hit 2 more home runs during a 9-3 win versus Incarnate Word (3-1) to keep the Aggies (4-0) unbeaten. LaViolette has 5 total home runs thus far.

Texas A&M swept McNeese State to begin the new campaign, outscoring the Cowboys 31-1. The pitching staff achieved a feat this weekend that had not been done in over a century.

On Tuesday against the Cardinals, the Aggies scored in every inning except the fourth. Texas A&M tallied 2 runs in the second and seventh, respectively, and 1 in each of the first, third, fifth, sixth and eighth.

Junior Chris Cortez (1-0) earned the win after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs and 1 hit by pitch with 8 strikeouts. Senior Evan Aschenbeck (1.1 IP), freshman Weston Moss (1.0) and sophomore Peyton Smith (1.0) each pitched in relief.

The Aggies begin a three-game home series on Friday at 6 p.m. versus Wagner College of Staten Island, New York.
