15 Shore boys lacrosse players who stood out in the opening week

The lacrosse season has begun and a lot has happened in the first week.

With winning goals, blowouts, close games, and high-profiled matchups, there's been no shortage of good players. The talent has been high, and which means there has already been some standouts. Some teams have only played one game, while others are multiple games in. Nonetheless, here are the standouts from week 1.

Leo Passalaqua, Rumson-Fair Haven, Jr.

He made the switch from midfielder to attack this season and has made the most of it leading the Bulldogs in total points with 13 through the first three games. He made the game-winning goal in double overtime over St. Augustine over the weekend.

Brody Muly, Manasquan, Sr.

In the first two games he's scored four goals in both matchups. His hot start in helping the Warriors be 2-0 is impressive alone.

Michael Hoarle, Wall, Jr.

The midfielder has won 96% of his face-offs in the first two games for the Crimson Knights. He also got himself a goal against Red Bank Regional.

Will Gilfillan, Holmdel, Sr.

The Catholic University commit went off in the season opener win over East Brunswick with five goals and four assists. The following game against Middletown South he had five assists and one goal.

Ryan Martin, Christian Brothers Academy, Sr.

The attackman and Villanova commit from Wall finished with three goals in a close 7-6 win over Bergen Catholic.

Andrew Pape, Red Bank Regional, Sr.

The midfielder leads the Bucs with 14 goals and eight assists in their first three games. He went off for six goals in a win over Morristown and five goals in a win over Old Bridge.

Liam Griffin, Southern, Jr.

The Saint Joseph's University commit is leading the team with 11 goals in two games. He had six goals against Jackson Memorial and five goals against Red Bank Catholic, both were for wins.

Brady Cooke, Shore, Sr.

Cooke had three goals and two assists against Holy Spirit in a 10-7 win for the Blue Devils. He leads the team in total points.

Joe Egan, Red Bank Catholic, Fr.

The midfielder has made a splash on the scene with his play becoming one of the top scorers for the Caseys. He scored three goals against Howell, four goals against St. John Vianney, and two goals against Southern.

Elias Craig, Jackson Memorial, Sr.

The five-foot-four midfielder leads the team in total points with eight through two games. He also scored four goals against Freehold Township.

Ben Girard, Ocean Township, Sr.

The midfielder has played a big part in the Spartans starting the season 2-0. He scored four goals against Brick Memorial and five goals against Marlboro.

Paul Capozzi, Jackson Liberty, Sr.

The Chestnut Hill College commit scored five goals and three assists in a win over Toms River North.

Gavin Reid, Point Pleasant Boro, Sr.

The midfielder had six goals in a 15-1 win over Toms River South.

Jack Farlekas, Donovan Catholic, Sr.

He went off for eight goals and one assist against St. Rose in a 19-2 win. The attackman will likely be the leading scorer all season for his team.

Nicholas Caruso, Toms River East, So.

The midfielder had six goals in a 15-1 win over Ocean Township.
