13 Hillsdale County track athletes and relay teams win at the Jack Beilfuss Invitational

HILLSDALE — Hillsdale High School hosted their annual Jack Beilfuss Invitational track meet held at Baumgarten Stadium. Over 12 different teams participated in the weekend event. The boys varsity team final score was won by Onsted with a 103. Taking second was Fowler with 92 points. Hillsdale Academy, Hillsdale and Jonesville rounded out the top five.

Over in the girls team scores, Fowler won the day with final points total of 168.5. Hillsdale Academy took second with a 123.5 final score and Hillsdale took third with a 67. Taking fourth was Blissfield and Ottawa Lake-Whiteford rounded out the top five.

Individual Results

Four different Hillsdale County teams participated in the track meet. 13 athletes and relay teams brought their programs wins in both boys and girls events. Let's take a look at the winners and top place finishers for each school.

Hillsdale

Hillsdale track and field had two relay team winners and three individual athletes bring home first place medals.

Senior Kelah Hodge won the girls pole vault with a clearance height of 8-feet, 9 inches. The girls 4x100 team of Jayce Graham, Annemarie Moore, Amelia Dietz and Megan Kast took first with a time of 51.92.

In boys long jump, junior Hayden Handy took first with a 19-feet, 9 1/4-inch jump. Sophomore Ashton Thornsbury took first with a 6-2 jump.

The boys relay team of Stephen Petersen, Hunter Wilson, Cam Arnold and Dawson Adams won with a 43.66. This time took their relay team all the way to the top of the Division 3 state rankings.

The following boys athletes took top five finishes in their respective events for Hillsdale. Dawson Adams took second (11.59) in the 100. Nolan Grant took fourth (4:35.57 PR) in the 1600. Logan Youngman took fifth (10:14.68) in the 3200. Brice Van Zant (16.11) took fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. John Petersen took fifth in the shot-put event (41-7.00 PR). Ethan Amburgery took fourth in the discus event (129-3 PR). Declan Flannery (11-6.00) took second in the pole vault event.

The following girls Hornet athletes took top five in their events. Jayce Graham (13.45) took third in the 100. Annemarie Moore (28.03) took third in the 200. Chloe Stalhood took second in the 3200 (12:04.68). Natalia Galindo Gabande took third in the 300 hurdles (51.28). Emma Collison took fifth (86-3 PR) in the discus event. Kiely Kroa took fifth (4-6.00) in the high jump event.

Hillsdale Academy

The Hillsdale Academy track team had two athletes and two relay teams bring home first place in their respective events but also had multiple athletes in the top five.

Both Colts SMR 1200-meter relay teams brought home first place. The boys team of Adam Alvarez, Luke Alvarez, Connor Hill and Jordan Perry won with a time of 2:45.45. The girls team of Eliana Stemme Cate Gaetano, Nora Treloar and Maren Gehrke took first with a time of 3:23.30.

Freshman Lucy Cote set a new PR time of 16.30 to take first in the 100-meter girls hurdles. She ranks seventh in current Division 4 state standings.

Academy senior Dominic Scharer won boys shot put with a new PR throw of 46-feet, 5 inches. He also won discus with a 150-foot throw. Scharer still ranks first in the discus state rankings and is ranked eighth in shot put standings.

Taking top five in boys events included Grayson Rorick (2:02.77) in the 800 with a fourth place finish. Senior Thomas Holm took third in both the 1600 (4:30.40) and 3200 (9:51.86), setting new PRs in each race. Dawson Scharer took third (15.96) in the 110 hurdles and second (40.27) in the 300 hurdles. Teammate Alex Richards took fifth (16.42 PR) and fourth (42.68) in each respective race.

The boys 4x800 relay team of Karol Schlueter, Luke Molenkamp, Timothy Gaebler and Reece Poole took fourth place with a time of 8:41.19.

Senior Magnus Heckel took third in discus (131-10 PR). Connor Hill took third in pole fault (11-3 PR).

The following athletes took top five in girls events. Georgia Whalen (1:04.76 PR) took third in the 400. Allie Miller (2:30.16 PR) took ninth in the 800. Caroline Roberts (5:29.48 PR) took fifth in the 1600. Ella Walton (12:07.96 PR) took fifth in the 3200. Teammates Zoe Plemmons (16.93 PR) and Madison Sallows (17.62) took second and fourth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles. Sallows (51.51) took fourth in the 300 hurdles.

The 4x100 relay team of Sallows, Cote, Angela Alvarez and Iris Millies took third with a time of 53.47. The 4x200 team of Haven Socha, Cote, Roberts and Alvarez took second with a time of 4:20.56. The 4x800 team of Ella Walton, Audrey Nehslon, Anne Gray and Mary Schlueter took third with a time of 10:36.29.

Evie Gray took third (90-5) in discus. Anne Gray took fifth (7-9) in pole vault. Plemmons took third (14-1 1/2) took third in long jump. Socha took fourth (13-9 3/4) in long jump.

Jonesville

Jonesville had one athlete and one relay team bring home gold from Hillsdale.

Senior Gavin Van Kampen took first in the 800 run with a PR time of 1:59.80. He is ranked eighth in current Division 3 standings. He has won all but two of his 800 races this season.

The 4x800 team of David Fowler, Zachery Childress, Caleb Blonde and Gavin Van Kampen took first with a time of 8:09.58. They are currently ranked second in Division 3 state standings.

The following Comet boys athletes took top five in their events. In pole Vault, Makinlee Packer (11-0) took fourth. Reece Rundquist (5-8) took fourth in high jump. Scotty Aubre (41-10) took third in the shot put event.

The 4x400 team of Nicholas Fowler, David Fowler, Van Kampen and Carter Rounds took second with a time of 3:29.10. The 4x200 team of Nicholas Fowler, Jordan VanSickle, Packer and Rounds took fourth with a time of 1:34.50. The 4x100 team of Packer, Nicholas Fowler, Ryan Marcavage and Van Sickle took fifth with a time of 45.74.

Freshman Caleb Blonde (9:51.25 PR) took second in the 3200. Collin Fucile (10:10.51 PR) took fourth in the 3200. Nicholas Fowler (52.99) took third in the 400.

The following Comet girls track athletes took home top five finishes.

Megan Lee (30-5) took fourth in the shot put event.

The 4x400 relay team of Amelia Means, Zoey Udzik, Kendahl Drake and Payton Nichelson took fifth with a time of 4:42.76. The 4x100 team of Udzik, Miley Dunlap, Nichelson and Brooke Sharp took fourth with a time of 55.50.

Brooke Sharp took fifth in the 400 (1:06.13). Sharp took fourth in the 100 (13.46).

Reading

Two individual Reading track athletes brought home first in their respective events.

In girls shot put, Abigail Affholter took first with a throw of 33-feet, 3 inches.

Senior Tayshawn Bester won the boys 110 hurdles with a PR time of 14.75. This new PR time puts him at the top of the Division 4 state standings. He is also eighth in 300 hurdles rankings and seventh in the 200-meter dash.

The following boys Ranger athletes took top five finishes. Brayden Wright (23.29) took second in the 200. Bester (23.91) took fourth.

The 4x200 team of Tayshawn Bester, Brady Kling, Connar Rudy and Colton Hoover took second with a time of 1:33.222.

The following girls Ranger athletes were top five in their respective events. Abigail Spencer took fifth (13.51) in the 100, fourth (28.04) in the 200 and fourth (1:04.78) in the 400-meter dashes.

The 4x200 relay team of Caylee Whinnie, Bria Wiler, Paige Santi and Abigail Spencer took third with a time of 1:55.19.

Abigail Affholter took fourth (89-2) in the discus event.
