As the American-Statesman prepares to release its All-Central Texas basketball teams Sunday, here are 12 freshman girls basketball players who had major impacts this winter and to watch going forward:
Grace Bagan, Hyde Park: The TAPPS sharpshooter hit 41 points in a single game and is a threat from 23 feet in.
Maddie Broxterman, Vandegrift: Elite point guard averaged 16 points with 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 3 deflections per contest.
Kyndall Johnson, LASA: Averaged more than 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Raptors.
Saania Khawaja, Vandegrift: Finished averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 34% on 3-point attempts.
Kennedy Lartigue, St. Stephen's: The Southwest Preparatory all-conference selection averaged 11.2 points and 4.7 steals for the SPC finalists.
Libby Lee, Glenn: Made a major impact for the Grizzlies by averaging 10.3 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Aniya Taylor, Jarrell: A scoring machine who averaged 21.4 points for a Cougars team that went 22-12 and finished second in their district.
Wynn Thorne, Westlake: A starter for a Class 6A team that reached the regional tournament who averaged 3.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Caria Thomas, McNeil: Scored in double digits 16 times and helped keep the Mavericks in the playoff mix until the final games of the season.
Kylie Trlicek, La Grange: Averaged 14.4 points and 2.6 assists for a Leopards team that finished second in its district.
Danica Williams, Bowie: A tremendous defender, she averaged 4 points and 3 rebounds. Twin of Daniella.
