10-year-old Nokomis boy hit while riding bike, Florida Highway Patrol says

A 10-year-old Nokomis boy was sent to the hospital Monday morning after he was struck by an SUV while riding his bike.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 71-year-old Nokomis man was traveling southbound on Sorrento Woods Boulevard. The boy also was traveling southbound on the sidewalk.

After approaching a stop sign, the driver pulled into the crosswalk, striking the child with the front of his vehicle.

The child fell from his bicycle and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The boy's mother was notified of the crash and went to the hospital with him.

The driver of the SUV was issued a citation for Violation of Right of Way.
