Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits 9th inning double for first MLB hit

It took all night, but the fans at Rogers Centre on Friday night got what they came for.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made his MLB debut in front of 28,688 fans, with each and every one of them hanging with baited breath on every pitch thrown to him.

After a 106.8 mph ground out, a fly ball that was nearly a home run, and a warning-track flyout, Guerrero Jr. came to the plate to lead off the bottom of the 9th in a tie game.

The kid has a keen sense of the moment and he delivered his first MLB hit at a crucial time.

In a two-strike count, Guerrero stayed back and hit an opposite-field double down the right field line to start the 9th off by putting himself in scoring position.

It was his first MLB hit, and one that couldn’t have come at a better time.

His father, Vladdy Sr., summed up the feeling perfectly:

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo pinch ran for him after the double, but anyone in the world could’ve scored from there with what happened next.

Brandon Drury, the man Guerrero Jr. took over for at third base, delivered a massive two-run home run to win the game in walk off fashion.

It is not a stretch to say that this was the most highly anticipated game of the Blue Jays season, and it couldn’t have ended on a more celebratory note for the home team.

The 12-14 Blue Jays are officially 1-0 in the Vladdy Jr. era.
