Mariners, Hernandez agree on $175-million contract

Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez is officially the highest-paid pitcher in baseball.

The right-hander and the team agreed to a seven-year $175 million contract, the Mariners announced Tuesday. A press conference in scheduled for Wednesday in Seattle.

Earlier Tuesday, Zduriencik told reporters that the sides were engaged in significant discussions to try and finalize a contract for the 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner.

An ESPN The Magazine report surfaced over the weekend that said the Mariners were concerned about Hernandez's, and the contract reportedly includes language that protect the team in that event.

Hernandez, who will turn 27 on April 8, has anchored the Mariners rotation since making his debut in 2005. He has made at least 31 starts and topped 200 innings every year since 2008.
