Wolves' Love has knee surgery
Before the Minnesota Timberwolves sustained another blowout loss Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Clippers, they got a bit of encouraging news off the court.
Star forward Kevin Love had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, and the procedure was termed a success. Love is expected to need a four- to six-week rehab, which will give him plenty of time to prepare for the 2013-14 NBA season.
The operation, performed at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery by David Altchek, removed scar-tissue buildup, the Timberwolves announced.
Love, 24, already was sidelined since breaking the third and fourth metacarpal in his right hand at Denver on Jan. 3. He underwent hand surgery Jan. 15.
He originally suffered a fracture of those two bones on Oct. 17 during a workout, and he missed the first nine games of the season.
Love appeared in only 18 games this season, averaging 18.3 points and 14.0 rebounds. He posted the highest scoring average of his five NBA seasons in 2011-12, when he produced 26 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.
