Wolves 3, Monsters 2

CLEVELAND -- Left wing Brett Sterling scored two goals as the Chicago Wolves rallied from an early deficit to take a 3-2 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters at the Quicken Loan Center.

The Wolves (12-9-2-1) won their in a row, marking their first three-game winning since they opened the season with three victories.

The Monsters (12-13-1-1) scored first after Wolves center Andrew Ebbett took a stick in Chicago zone. Monsters center Mark Olver then squeezed a shot past Wolves goaltender Matt Climie at 1:26 into the game.

But Ebbett returned the favor, taking a pass from defenseman Mark Matheson and scoring past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard to tie the game at 1-1 at 10:05 of the first.

Chicago used a power-play opportunity to take its first lead three minutes later. Sterling jammed the puck past Pickard for his seventh goal of the season. It marked the third consecutive game in which the Wolves have scored on a power play.

Sterling scored again 2:34 into the second period to put the Wolves up 3-1. They held on despite a David van der Gulik goal at 12:24 of the second period pulled the Monsters within 3-2.

Entering Saturday game, the Wolves and Monsters had combined to give up an AHL-high 36 goals in the third period so far this season. But both goalies held their ground and despite Lake Erie pulling Pickard with 90 seconds left to play.
