Wisconsin-Green Bay 73, Loyola-Chicago 65
Wisconsin-Green Bay went on a 10-0 run late in the second half to overcome a five-point deficit, then hung on to post a 73-65 victory over Loyola-Chicago in a Horizon League matchup Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Phoenix (12-11, 6-4 Horizon League) was down 55-50 when Sultan Muhammad ignited the run with a 3-pointer, and Cole Stefan finished off the surge with another triple to give Green Bay a 60-50 lead with 3:33 left.
The Ramblers (13-9, 3-6) made a late run of their own, closing their deficit to four points, 66-62, on Devon Turk's 3-pointer with 38.5 seconds left, but could get no closer.
With leading scorer Keifer Sykes scoreless after injuring an ankle, junior Dan Brown picked up the scoring slack for Green Bay with a career-high 25 points. Brown hit three free throws and Muhammad two down the stretch to give Green Bay a sweep of the two meetings with Loyola.
Both teams shot the ball well. Green Bay was 26 of 45 (57.8 percent) and Loyola 25 of 52 (48.1) from the field.
Ben Averkamp scored 17 points, Christian Thomas 16, and Jordan Hicks 15 to lead Loyola.
