Virginia leads the way into postseason

Virginia apparently wasn't good enough to earn better than a No. 5 national seed in the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee. But in our minds, there's no question the Cavaliers are one of the nation's elite.

With the NCAA tournament on the horizon, Virginia enters postseason play as the top-ranked team in the Rivals Top 25.

The Cavaliers are coming off another solid week that included a 2-1 record in the ACC tournament with wins over Boston College and Miami.

The Cavaliers are followed by Arizona State, Texas, Florida and UCLA. The Sun Devils finished the regular season with a road series win over Stanford, Texas went 0-3 in the Big 12 tournament, Florida went 2-2 in the SEC tournament and UCLA ended the regular season with a home series win over Washington State.

Also worth noting, Florida State moved from No. 13 to No. 11 following a great showing in the ACC tournament, UC Irvine moved from No. 25 to No. 21 after going 3-1 last week with a series sweep over Long Beach State, and Vanderbilt rounds out the top 25 after going 1-2 in the SEC tourney.

Oregon and Mississippi dropped out of our rankings. Texas A&M and LSU, meanwhile, entered the rankings at Nos. 22 and 23, respectively.

The Bruins dropped a midweek game to Cal State Fullerton, but they finished Pac-10 play with a series win over Washington State.

The Chanticleers had little trouble taking care of business in the Big South tournament. Now they're a national seed moving forward.

7. TCU (46-11) – Previous rank: 8
The Horned Frogs once again took care of business in the Mountain West tournament with a 3-0 record.

8. Cal State Fullerton (41-15) – Previous rank: 10
The Titans finished off the regular season in style with a win over UCLA and a series sweep over Cal State Northridge.

9. South Carolina (43-15) – Previous rank: 7
The Gamecocks fell short of earning a national seed after going 0-2 in the SEC tournament.

10. Louisville (48-12) – Previous rank: 9
The Cardinals went just 2-2 in the Big East tournament, but they have a favorable postseason draw as a national seed.

11. Florida State (42-17) – Previous rank: 13
The Seminoles might've played their best baseball of the season in the ACC tournament.

12. Georgia Tech (45-13) – Previous rank: 11
The Yellow Jackets still found their way to a national seed despite going 1-2 in the ACC tournament.

13. Auburn (40-19) – Previous rank: 12
The Tigers finished the SEC tournament with a 1-2 record but enter the NCAA tournament as a regional host.

14. Oklahoma (44-15) – Previous rank: 15
The Sooners put together another solid week at the Big 12 tournament with a 2-1 record.

15. Virginia Tech (38-20) – Previous rank: 16
The Hokies rebounded nicely from their North Carolina series with a 2-1 record in the ACC tournament.

16. Arkansas (40-18) – Previous rank: 14
The Razorbacks went 0-2 in the SEC tournament but still are at home to begin the NCAA tournament.

17. Connecticut (47-14) – Previous rank: 18
The Huskies fell just short of winning the Big East tournament but still will host a regional in the NCAA tournament.

The Owls scored more than 50 runs in the Conference USA tournament and head to the Austin Regional with a full head of steam.

19. Miami (Fla.) (40-17) – Previous rank: 17
The Hurricanes have lost four of their last six games. Now we'll see how they do in the NCAA tournament.

20. San Diego (36-20) – Previous rank: 23
The Toreros put together another strong week and enter the postseason with a wealth of confidence.

21. UC Irvine (37-19) – Previous rank: 25
The Anteaters finished the regular season with a road series sweep over lifeless Long Beach State.

22. Texas A&M (40-19) – Previous rank: NR
The Aggies really couldn't have played better in the Big 12 tournament. They finished the event with a 4-0 record.

23. LSU (40-20) – Previous rank: NR
The Tigers won their third straight SEC tournament title with a 4-0 record in Hoover, Ala.

24. Washington State (34-20) – Previous rank: 21
The Cougars finished the season with a tough road series loss to UCLA. Now they head to the NCAA tournament as a No. 2 seed.

25. Vanderbilt (41-17) – Previous rank: 24
The Commodores might've blown a regional host by going 1-2 in the SEC tournament, but they're still confident entering the tournament.
