VIDEO: Young Blues fan gets wish, addresses team before game

Brendan Woods is 17 now, but he has been through a lot having had multiple heart surgeries as a young child after he was born with an abnormal heart. He eventually had a heart transplant just before his fourth birthday. When he was going through that ordeal, he was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and was due to go on a Disney cruise with his family in October 2001.

That trip never happened, however, as the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, put those plans on hold. Thirteen years later, Woods still had a wish to be granted, so he decided that what he really wanted was to go on a road trip with the St. Louis Blues.

That's exactly what he did when the team traveled to Columbus for a preseason game against the Blue Jackets.

He attended the team's morning skate, got to meet the players and got himself an autographed stick. Woods then boarded the team's plane to Columbus and even addressed the Blues before the game with some advice before the puck dropped.

And this wasn't some "win one for me" kind of thing. Woods talked about tying the man up on faceoffs, not making blind passes and going after rebounds.

That brought a smile from head coach Ken Hitchcock and someone in the background asked, "Can you talk every time instead of him [Hitchcock]?"

"I couldn't have asked for a better wish," Woods said after the experience.
