UFC on FOX 13 Results: Alistair Overeem Stops Stefan Struve in the First
Alistair Overeem wasted no time in getting a win at UFC on FOX 13, knocking out Stefan Struve in the first round on Saturday in Phoenix.
Overeem, known for his striking, decided to put the fight to the ground. It worked out for him and he earned the knockout at 4:13 of the opening five minutes.
“I was prepared for everything,” he said. “I felt it would be clever to take him down and destroy him there.”

Both fighters were cautious in the early moments of the contest. Overeem committed to the takedown offense and secured one, putting Struve on his back.
Once on the ground, Overeem transitioned from being inside and outside of Struve's guard before working ground and pound on his 7-foot opponent. Once he was able to find the angles around Struves lengthy legs, Overeem pounded away at his grounded foe before earning the TKO win in the opening frame.
With the win, Overeem rebounds from his last contest where he was knocked out in the first round by Ben Rothwell.
