UFC 201 Main Card Opener Between Justin Scoggins and Ian McCall Cancelled
A flyweight bout pitting Justin Scoggins vs. Ian McCall was supposed to open the UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley main card on Saturday night, but the fireworks fizzled on Thursday when the fight was cancelled.
Having trouble cutting weight, and unwilling to risk his health, Scoggins had to pull out of the fight.
“Guys, it is with sadness and regret that I have to announce that my fight with Ian McCall is off at UFC 201,” Scoggins posted on Facebook.

“I was in the middle of my weight cut that was going great, I thought. I stopped dropping at 132.5 (pounds). I stopped sweating, zero urine and body temp began to climb,” he continued. “Rather than risk health hazard, the fight was cancelled. I apologize for not being able to deliver on the performance that I was hoping to put on. I will be making the move to 135.”
Scoggins (11-2) won back-to-back bouts in his last two fights, rebounding off consecutive losses to Dustin Ortiz and John Moraga. Prior to UFC 201, he had been considering a move to bantamweight, but following his weight-cutting issues and cancellation of the fight with McCall, it's no longer just a consideration. It appears he won't be fighting at flyweight for the foreseeable future.
UFC officials had yet to comment on the cancellation as of the time of publication, but it is unlikely that a new opponent could be slotted in to face McCall with less than 24 hours until weigh-ins.
