UFC 161 Drug Test Results: Randomly Tested Fighters Clean; No Therapeutic Use Exemptions
The Manitoba Combative Sports Commission had random drug testing conducted at UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson on June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. All athletes tested returned negative results, passing the tests.
“Ten of the twenty-two athletes were randomly tested for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse,” Joel Fingard, the Manitoba commission’s executive director, told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday. “All ten athletes tested passed with negative test results.”
Rashad Evans eked out a split decision victory over Dan Henderson in the UFC 161 main event at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Stipe Miocic upset Roy Nelson in the night’s co-main event.
The topic of therapeutic use exemptions, particularly in regard to testosterone replacement therapy, has been a hot-button issue over the past couple of years. There were no therapeutic use exemptions or TUEs granted for UFC 161, according to Fingard.
Henderson has been granted TUEs for testosterone replacement therapy from various commissions in the past, including Nevada and California. He has been diagnosed with hypogonadism and suffers from chronically low testosterone levels. Over the course of several years of testing, he has not tested above the accepted range for testosterone levels.
The Manitoba commission did not reveal the names of the 10 fighters that were randomly drug tested.
