Trevor Siemian missed another Broncos practice, opening door to Paxton Lynch starting

Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian missed a second straight day of practice Thursday, making it likely that rookie Paxton Lynch will steer the offense on Sunday.

Fortunately for the Broncos, they will be on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars, they of the six-game losing streak, so there are worse teams for Lynch to make his second career start against.

Siemian suffered a foot sprain in the Broncos’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. Denver coach Gary Kubiak told reporters on Wednesday that Siemian’s foot swelled up after the game and he was in a walking boot.

Lynch, the 26th overall pick out of Memphis, started a game in October when Siemian was dealing with a left shoulder injury.

That day, the Broncos lost to Atlanta, 23-16. Though Lynch completed nearly two-thirds of his pass attempts, Denver punted on four of its five first-half possessions, managing only a field goal before halftime.

It didn’t get much better in the second half, as the Broncos started punt-interception-punt. Lynch and the offense did finish strong with 13 fourth-quarter points, but were down 20-3 at the end of the third.
