Torii Hunter's son files suit against accusers
Attorneys for Darius McClinton-Hunter, the son of Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter, filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against two girls and their families seeking up to $40 million in damages after the 17-year-old was accused of sexual assault last year.
A girl, who alleged last May that McClinton-Hunter and three other boys from Prosper (Texas) High School forced her and another girl to have sex, recanted shortly afterward. But Prosper police continued its investigation after a grand jury failed to indict McClinton-Hunter in February, the suit claims.
McClinton-Hunter, a standout football player, was suspended from high school activities as a result of the charges and lost scholarship offers form Arkansas, LSU, Oregon and other prominent schools, according to the suit.
Larry Friedman, a lawyer who is representing McClinton-Hunter, said there's a possibility that a suit also will be filed against the Prosper Police Department.
The lawsuit states that McClinton-Hunter, now a senior, wants to "recover damages against the girls and the parents of the girls who made the false accusations of sexual assault against Darius that falsely branded as a 'criminal,' ruined his reputation, sent him to an alternative school for a year, got him kicked off the Prosper High School football team and banned from high school sports."
His brother, Torii Jr., has committed to play for Notre Dame.
