Texans on top as 2014 draft order becomes clearer
The top 20 selections in the 2014 NFL Draft are set following Week 17. The full draft order will be determined by the order of finish in the 2013 postseason.
With their 14th consecutive loss to end the season, the Houston Texans are officially on the clock with the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Houston lost to the Tennessee Titans to lock up the top spot in the May draft.
Coach Gary Kubiak was fired after loss number 11 on Dec. 5 at Jacksonville and the Texans intend to hire a replacement as early as Tuesday, according to various reports.
General manager Rick Smith is expected to remain with the organization at the right hand of owner Bob McNair.
The Texans last had the No. 1 pick in 2006, when Houston selected defensive end Mario Williams over Southern Cal running back Reggie Bush. The New Orleans Saints drafted Bush at No. 2.
Houston also held the No. 1 pick in 2002, selecting Fresno State quarterback David Carr.
NFLDraftScout.com ranks Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as the top player potentially available in 2014. Bridgewater, a junior, said recently he was undecided on his status for next season. Draft-eligible redshirt sophomores and juniors have until Jan. 15 to declare for the 2014 draft.
