Tests reveal Royals' Hosmer has rotator cuff tear

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has a small tear in his right rotator cuff and might not play the rest of the season.

Hosmer said the injury showed up on a magnetic resonance imaging exam Friday, The Kansas City Star reported. He was hurt Thursday in Detroit while landing on his shoulder after diving for a grounder.

"We'll wait a couple of days and reevaluate," Hosmer told The Star. "Then we'll do all of the testing and stuff and see how it feels."

Royals manager Ned Yost called Hosmer day to day.

Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar suffered a bruised right shoulder in the same game and also is listed as day to day.
