Strikeforce Adds Jorge Masvidal vs. Justin Wilcox to July Fight Card

Thursday is apparently lightweight day for Strikeforce.

First the promotion announced Ryan Couture vs. Joe Duarte for its July 14 Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy fight card in Portland, Ore., and now they’ve added a second 155-pound bout. Former title contender Jorge Masvidal will square off with Justin Wilcox at the Rose Center.

Masvidal (22-7) hopes to get back to his winning ways against Wilcox after failing in his attempt to wrest the title from around lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez’s waist. He had scored impressive victories over Billy Evangelista and K.J. Noons prior to that loss, so Wilcox would be a big step back in the direction of the title.

Wilcox (11-4) is also trying to right his ship. He fought to a no-contest with JZ Cavalcante last summer then suffered a knockout at the hands of Caros Fodor just before the year closed out.

Luke Rockhold and Tim Kennedy fight in the night’s main event for Rockhold’s Strikeforce middleweight strap.
