Stanford QB Nunes medically retiring
Josh Nunes, who was Stanford's starting quarterback for the first nine games in 2012, is retiring from college football for medical reasons, Stanford announced on Monday.
Stanford did not specify the reason for Nunes' retirement, but he had suffered an arm injury during offseason workouts that sidelined him for spring football practice. Following Stanford's spring game, coach David Shaw hinted that Nunes may not be ready to play in 2013.
Nunes started the first nine games last season as a redshirt junior before being replaced by redshirt freshman Kevin Hogan in the first half of the November 3 game against Colorado. Hogan took over as the starter in the next game, and led the Cardinal to five straight wins as a starter, including the Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.
Nunes completed 52.8 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season.
