Spurs 76, Warriors 74
SAN ANTONIO -- Point guard Tony Parker had 18 points to push the San Antonio Spurs past the Golden State Warriors 76-74 Friday night at the AT&T Center.
Parker was 7-of 14 from the field and with four assists.
Forward Kawhi Leonard added 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals for San Antonio (5-1), which led the whole game.
The Spurs got the win without the Warriors' best player, guard Stephen Curry, on the court. He was scratched before the game with a bruised left ankle he suffered in Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Curry, in his fifth year, is averaging 18.7 points and 9.2 assists a game.
Guard Harrison Barnes started in his place but only managed five points in 21 minutes.
It was guard Toney Douglas who came off the bench to lead the Warriors (4-2) in scoring with 21 points. He was 5-for 9 from the 3-point line.
Leading scorer Klay Thompson had 11. David Lee also had 13, with 10 rebounds for the Warriors, who played the third game of a four-game road trip. Center Andrew Bogut added 13 rebounds.
The Warriors cut the lead to two on a pair of free throws from forward David Lee to make it 76-74 with 2:23 in the fourth quarter.
But then both teams held serve, going scoreless the rest of the way and giving the Spurs another win over the Warriors in San Antonio.
It's been 17 years since the Warriors have won a regular-season game in San Antonio, a string of 30 consecutive contests that dates back to Feb. 14, 1997, the longest current streak in the NBA.
San Antonio came out hitting 12 of its first 21 field goals to take a 28-20 first-quarter lead. The Spurs needed it as they only managed four field goals in the second period but had a 40-33 halftime lead on the Warriors.
Parker led the Spurs with 11 first-half points.
The Warriors, who came into the game averaging 110.8 points a game, best in the league, struggled to score and hit only 33 first-half points. They committed 20 turnovers that turned into 20 points for San Antonio.
Thompson, trying to pick up the slack for Curry, was 3-of 12 for six points at halftime.
NOTES: Even though Golden State has endured a 29-game regular-season losing streak in San Antonio, the Warriors did win a playoff game on the Spurs' home court during the Western Conference semifinals in May, stopping a 16-game losing streak to San Antonio. Golden State lost the series 4-2. ... With the Spurs' win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, G Tony Parker and F Tim Duncan have combined for 596 victories as teammates. That tied Los Angeles Lakers guards Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher for the fourth-most wins by two teammates. ... In their four victories this season, the Warriors have been winning by a margin of league-leading 12.8 points per game. ... F Matt Bonner was held out of his second straight game with tightness in his left calf.
