Spurs 104, Warriors 93
SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 104-93 win over the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.
Duncan, who has picked up the slack as point guard Tony Parker recovers from a sprained left ankle, added six assists and four blocks in 31 minutes.
San Antonio continued their domination of the Warriors at home. Golden State has not won in San Antonio since Feb. 14, 1997, a streak of 29 consecutive games. That win, which was in the Alamodome, was in Tim Duncan's senior season at Wake Forest. It is the longest active steak in the NBA.
Tiago Splitter added 17 and Manu Ginobili 16. Nando De Colo, who came off the bench with Ginobili, added 10, for the Spurs (52-16).
San Antonio used a 19-2 second quarter run that ended with a Stephen Jackson 3-pointer with five minutes to go that put them up 48-32.
The Spurs struggled from beyond the arch, connecting on 8 of 26 (30 percent).
Tim Duncan had 12 points and seven rebounds in the first half to lead the Spurs into the locker up 60-47.
San Antonio, who are 6-2 since Parker was sidelined, have struggled defensively, allowing 107 more points in three of those contests, but clamped down on the Warriors early, forcing them to 17 turnovers for 26 points.
But the Warriors would not go away. They cut the Spurs' 16-point first half lead to four, 92-84, on a Stephen Curry free throw with 3:38 left.
The Spurs answered back with a 12-1 run, with Duncan scoring six in that spurt, to pull the game out of reach.
Golden State, who had won four of their last five games, struggled offensively, with top scorers Stephen Curry and David Lee going a combined 12 of 37.
Curry led the Warriors (39-31) with 24. Jarrett Jack added 14, Harrison Barnes 13, David Lee 13 and Carl Landry. Lee had 12 rebounds and Andrew Bogut added 11.
NOTES: Spurs guard Tony Parker practiced on Tuesday, a possible sign that his return may be sooner than later. Parker suffered a Grade 2 sprain to his left ankle against the Sacramento Kings on March 1st. ... Spurs coach Gregg Popovich spent two seasons (1992-1994) as an assistant coach in Golden State under Don Nelson. ... San Antonio has had the Warriors' number for some time, but they snapped a 16-game losing streak to the Spurs on Feb. 22. They did it in dramatic fashion, with a 107-101 overtime win at Golden State. ... Spurs coach Gregg Popovich came into the game two wins away from getting his 900th win, a feat only accomplished by 10 other coaches. He would be only the second one to do that with one team, with Utah coach Jerry Sloan being the other.
