After renouncing the rights to forward Donatas Motiejunas on Thursday, the Houston Rockets plan to re-sign guard Bobby Brown, league sources told The Vertical.

Motiejunas will become an unrestricted free agent.

Motiejunas had agreed to a four-year, $35 million deal with the Rockets after months of negotiations and a saga that included an offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets being matched by Houston. When Motiejunas failed to report to the Rockets, the two sides scrapped his four-year sheet and negotiated a similar new deal.

Motiejunas was slated to earn $8.3 million this season.

Brown had appeared in six games with the Rockets this season.

Motiejunas played 37 games last season following back surgery. The uncertainty around Houston’s willingness to agree to a long-term deal with Motiejunas was because of his back issues. Motiejunas was examined by Nets doctors recently and the results gave comfort to Brooklyn to move forward with the offer sheet.

The Rockets and coach Mike D’Antoni had publicly stated a desire to have Motiejunas return to the roster. Houston is off to a 19-7 start this season.
