Denver Nuggets guard Gary Harris is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a partially torn right groin, league sources told The Vertical.

The Nuggets open the regular season Oct. 26 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

An MRI revealed the partial tear of a muscle on Wednesday, an injury that occurred in a preseason game against Toronto on Tuesday.

The Nuggets are deep at shooting guard, and Harris’ absence will offer an opportunity for several players, including veteran Will Barton and impressive rookie guard Jamal Murray, the No. 7 overall pick out of Kentucky, to gain preseason minutes.

Harris made considerable improvement in his second NBA season last year, improving his shooting percentage, scoring and defense under coach Michael Malone. Harris was the 19th overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Michigan State.
