Smith, Stafford say they are OK after injuries
Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford and running back Kevin Smith, who left with injuries during Saturday's preseason game in Oakland, said they will not miss any significant time.
Stafford suffered a left-hand injury -- his non-throwing hand -- while hitting it on a helmet during a second-quarter pass. Smith limped off the field with what appeared to be a leg injury. Both were pulled from the game and did not return.
Stafford and Smith told MLive.com they both had X-rays and both came up negative.
"Probably what would have happened in a regular season game is right after it happened, I would have up for x-rays," said Stafford, whose had immediately began to swell. "If they would have said they were negative, I would have come back in the game.
"It feels okay right now. It feels fine, really. It's scary to look down and see your hand swell up by the second."
Smith also said he was fine.
"My x-rays were negative," Smith said. "It just gets scary under the pile of those big guys laying on you. It's just a minor tweak, something I'm pretty sure I can get rid of quick. Just stay in the training room."
