Sixers deny firing CEO Aron
The Philadelphia 76ers haven't fired CEO Adam Aron, despite multiple reports to the contrary, a team spokesman said.
A minority owner of the team, Aron has been involved in the business world with majority owner Josh Harris for more than 20 years.
"They have been together for a long time and they will continue to work together with the 76ers," Sixers Public Relations Director Michael Preston told the Philadelphia Daily News. "Adam Aron will continue to work for the 76ers. He has not been fired. All reports saying he was were wrong."
For his part, Aron took the rumors with humor.
"Just minutes ago, I got off a plane from vacation in Africa and saw press reports," he posted on his Twitter account. "A la Mark Twain, rumors of my demise greatly exaggerated. ... I'm delighted to report that this is an immensely exciting time in my career. Moral of story: don't go on a faraway vacation!"
The Daily News, citing a source, reported that Aron's role with the team could change. Scott O'Neil, the former New York Knicks executive, visited the team last week. O'Neil resigned as president of Madison Square Garden in September.
When the team introduced Sam Hinkie the team's president and general manager last month, reports surfaced that Aron's role with the team had been cut back, though Aron denied those rumors as well.
"My role has not changed one bit," he told reporters. "I don't know where that report came from."
