Sharks sign C Pavelski to five-year extension

The SportsXchange

San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski signed a five-year extension Tuesday that will keep him in California through the 2018-19 season.

The team didn't release contract terms, though multiple media outlets reported the contract was worth $30 million. He'll earn $4 million this season, the final one of his current pact.

"Joe has been an important part of our success over the last several years and we are excited to have him with our club for the next six seasons," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement.

Pavelski recorded 31 points in 48 games last season, tied for third on the team. He also led the Sharks with 12 points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.

Drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Draft, Pavelski has 150 goals and 186 assists in 479 career NHL games.
