SEC reset: Georgia

GEORGIA (0-1)

Game: Clemson 38, Georgia 35. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions after punting on their first series, but then went into an offensive lull when RB Todd Gurley and WR Malcolm Mitchell went out with injuries. Gurley returned later and finished with 154 yards rushing. A successful fake punt in the third quarter re-ignited the offense, but the Bulldogs' comeback bid came up short. Trailing 38-28 midway through the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs scored with 1:06 left in the game but couldn't recover the onside kick, allowing the Tigers to kill the clock.

Takeaway: There's no reason to for Georgia fans to slit their wrists or push the panic button with this loss, at least not yet. The Bulldogs can get things back on track this week with a win over South Carolina in a key Eastern Division matchup.

But there were some disconcerting things in the loss. Senior QB Aaron Murray was 20-of-29 passing for 323 yards but also threw an interception and seemed to have trouble at times keeping track of the play clock.

Murray also lost a fumble while getting sacked that set up a Clemson touchdown, and the Bulldogs were penalized nine times for 84 yards.

"Our biggest challenge was dealing with the crowd noise and penalties," QB Aaron Murray said. "We killed ourselves with penalties tonight. It's tough to convert third-and-long. Penalties are a big reason why we lost tonight."

-- Sophomore WR Justin Scott-Wesley had four receptions for 55 yards, only two catches short of his season total for 2012. With three catches in the Capital One Bowl win over Nebraska, he has seven receptions for 122 yards in his last two games.

-- Sophomore FB Quayvon Hicks started a 97-yard scoring drive in the first quarter with a 39-yard run on first down from his three-yard line, then finished it by scoring from four yards out on the drive's 10th play.

Next: Vs. South Carolina, Sept. 7.
