Seahawks Add Versatile Offensive Lineman

Ethan Pocic can play up and down the line. And just might.

While I expected the Seahawks to go for a defensive back all those many years ago, when they had the 26th pick, they continue to address other areas. This time, they drafted to protect Russell Wilson, which is always a great idea. Ethan Pocic, welcome to the Seahawks.

Pocic, 6’7″ and 302 pounds, is taller than the typical center, but he made 27 of his career 37 starts for the LSU Tigers at that spot. Undoubtedly, his versatility is a big part of his attraction for the Seahawks. Left guard, right tackle, center – Tom Cable is salivating right now. Yeah, that picture will be stuck in your head for days. You’re welcome.

Pocic anchored the LSU line that amassed 2,100 rushing yards in 2016. I suppose Leonard Fournette has something to do with that, but you gotta have a hole to hit – unless you’re Barry Sanders. From all reports, Pocic will need to hit the weight room as he moves up from the semi-pros of the SEC to the NFL, but he certainly has the frame and work ethic to accomplish any goals the Seahawks set for him. Chris Carlisle gets a new toy.

At this point, I do have to admit I’m a bit nervous, as it seems at least 233 defensive backs have been drafted already. Then again, the John Schneider – Pete Carroll braintrust hasn’t gotten this game wrong too often. I’m keeping the faith.
