Sarah Kaufman Off UFC Fight Night 27 Fight Card, Awaits Octagon Debut

Sarah Kaufman is one of the top female fighters in the world, but she has yet to make her UFC debut… and she’s going to have to wait a bit longer.

Kaufman was slated to fight Sara McMann at UFC Fight Night 27: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 and Aug. 28 in Indianapolis. McMann, however, dropped out of the bout due to undisclosed reasons.

That was a couple of weeks ago, and the UFC has been searching for a replacement ever since, but has come up short. No one would take the fight, leaving Kaufmann without an opponent.

On Monday, she confirmed she wouldn’t be fighting at the Aug. 28 event.

“Well, it's official: no replacement opponent would take the fight so I'm off #UFN27,” Kaufman tweeted. “I'm devastated about pushing my @ufc debut back.”

The Canadian fighter was the first Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, a designation she later lost to Marloes Coenen. She eventually fought her way back into contention, only to have current UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey submit her.

The Rousey bout was Kaufman’s final fight under the Strikeforce banner. She remained active this year, with the permission of UFC officials, by winning a decision over Leslie Smith at Invicta FC 5 in April.

Planning to face McMann, a former Olympic medalist, Kaufman must now take a step back and continue training and waiting for her Octagon debut.
