The New Orleans Saints finished the 2015 season with one of the highest-scoring units in the NFL, and nobody would have said that they needed to add another wide receiver.

Such is life with breakout star Brandin Cooks and young talent Willie Snead, but the team took a chance on 6-foot-3 wideout Michael Thomas, and though many fans probably wished they addressed their defense (worst in the NFL last year,) it appears to have been the right selection (so far.)

According to Rod Walker from The New Orleans Saints Advocate, Thomas has actually been the team’s best player in camp (through four days.) Here is what Walker said about the promising rookie:

“And even when he is covered, he has found ways to come up with a reception. He has easily been the best player in camp so far.”

That’s good news for the Saints. Drew Brees led the NFL in passing yards last year with Snead and Cooks as his only reliable receivers. Throw in newly-signed tight end Coby Fleener and the prized Thomas, and you have an offense that’s stacking up to rival the 2013 Denver Broncos.

Then again, we all know the Saints will always put up more than 20 points in most of their games. The only question is if their defense can stop allowing 30 points a game.
