Rockets' Beverley breaks hand

The Houston Rockets lost starting point guard Patrick Beverley for four to six weeks with a broken right hand that he suffered during the first half of Saturday's game against the Detroit Pistons.

Beverley is expected to undergo more tests on his injured hand. He returned to the bench during the game with a cast on his right hand.

The 25-year-old Beverley has started 23 games this season and is averaging 9.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He also has been a defensive spark for Houston.

The Rockets already were hurting at guard with Jeremy Lin still out because of a back injury and James Harden missing Saturday's game with a sore ankle.

That leaves Aaron Brooks to start at point guard until Lin is able to return. Lin began practicing again this past week, but it's uncertain when he will be back in the lineup.
