Richmond 71, Coppin State 49

Richmond won for the fifth time in its last six games with a convincing 71-49 victory over Coppin State on Saturday at the New Robins Center in Richmond, Va.

The Spiders improved to 8-3. Coppin State fell to 4-5 after its modest two-game winning streak was snapped.

Richmond was led by junior guard Kendall Anthony's 18 points. Sophomore forward Trey Davis had 12 points and eight rebounds and sophomore forward Terry Allen added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Coppin State's top scorer was senior forward Michael Murray with 13 points.

There were nine lead changes in the first half before Richmond took control with an 11-0 run, turning a one-point deficit into a 22-12 lead on a 3-pointer by freshman guard ShawnDre' Jones with 9:22 left in the half.

From there, Richmond was never threatened, rolling into intermission with a 37-21 lead.

Coppin State shot just 28.6 percent from the field (14 of 49) in the game and 18.8 percent from 3-point range (3 of 16) compared with Richmond's 50 percent accuracy from the floor (26 of 52).
