Report: Williams to choose between Nets, Mavs

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams reportedly will only consider re-signing with the Nets or leaving for the Dallas Mavericks when he becomes a free agent next Sunday.

The all-star guard already has narrowed his list to those two teams, ESPN.com reported, citing sources close to Williams. He is "up in the air" about which team he will choose, the sources said.

Williams averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists a game last season.

The Dallas-area native, who is considered the No. 1 free agent this off-season, was traded to the Nets during the 2010-11 season.

Nets officials, who will moved to a new arena in Brooklyn this fall, have said they want to build the franchise around Williams. Mavericks officials have reportedly cleared salary cap space in order to pair Williams with star forward Dirk Nowitzki

The Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets were also interested in Williams, ESPN.com reported. However, Williams told his agent to tell teams when the free-agent negotiating period begins next week that he is only interested in two teams.
