Report: Steelers on verge of releasing Harrison

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the verge of releasing linebacker James Harrison after the two sides have been unable to come an agreement on a pay cut for Harrison, USA Today reported Friday.

According to the report, the two sides spoke on Friday, but have made no progress in getting Harrison to agree to any reduction in the $6.57 million base salary he's owed next season.

Harrison turns 35 in May, and his six sacks in 2012 represented his lowest total since becoming a regular starter in 2007.

Harrison is signed through 2014, but the Steelers have been trying to reduce their spending under the salary cap.
