Report: Sabres not interested in signing Hasek

Retired goalie Dominik Hasek has met with the Buffalo Sabres in his desire to return to the NHL, but the Sabres aren't interested.

Sabres general manager Darcy Regier told the Buffalo News on Thursday that Haskek, 47, contacted the team about a month ago, but he also said the team will pass on trying to sign him.

"One thing I am sure of: He has no doubt in his mind that he can play," Regier told the News. "I think it probably gives him a little bit of lift seeing somebody like (Martin) Brodeur play at 40 in the Stanley Cup Final. I know better than to question Dom's desire and his ability. Unfortunately, it's not something that was going to fit here."

Hasek played for Buffalo from 1992 to 2001.

He last played in the NHL in 2008 for the Detroit Red Wings, and most recently played for Spartak Moscow in the KHL in 2010-11.

Hasek said in May he wanted to return to the NHL.
