Report: Reliever Smith headed to Angels

The Angels reached agreement with free agent relief pitcher Joe Smith on a three-year, $15 million contract, according to a CBSSports.com report on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old pitched in 70 games for the Cleveland Indians last season, mostly in a setup role. He posted a 6-2 record with a 2.29 ERA, three saves and 54 strikeouts in 63 innings. He has a career ERA of 2.97.

Smith is expected to take over the Angels' top setup job next season.

The right-hander began his major league career with the New York Mets in 2007 and came to the Indians in 2009. He has worked in 70 or more games the past three seasons.
