Report: New LeBron billboard across from 'the Q' proposed

When LeBron James left Cleveland, the gigantic banner across the street from the Cavaliers' arena showing James with the chalk dust facing a skyline with the words "Witness" across it was also torn down. Photos of that banner coming down came to represent how James had torn down his legacy as a native Ohioan.

Now, with his opening night return just around the corner, there's a replacment being raised in the very near future. Cleveland.com has the details:

He also could return to the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Ontario Street in downtown Cleveland, where Gigantic Media and the Sherwin-Williams Co. are seeking approval for a banner dedicated to Northeast Ohio's favorite prodigal son.

Images submitted to the Cleveland City Planning Commission on Tuesday show James with his arms stretched, once again, across the eastern face of the Landmark Office Towers, the Sherwin-Williams headquarters complex at the back of Tower City.

...

On the new banner, James still stands beneath a puff of chalk dust, acting out a pre-game ritual. But this time, he's not alone. He's facing a crowd, instead of downtown. There's no script. Just a simple Nike swoosh.

That sounds a little creepy, honestly, but it could also be very cool. You have to think that James is bringing back the chalk toss (he used is sparingly in Miami -- PS, it's something Kevin Garnett was doing as a tribute to Michael Jordan back in the early 2000's but whatever, James made it famous). And the story is such a feel-good one, it'll be good to complete it with the image.

It also represents what this means to Cleveland. This isn't just about the best player in the world signing with them, or coming back, or the redemption of the franchise. It's validation of the cultural identity of the city and the state. No pressure.
