Report: John Moore signs one-year deal with Rangers

The New York Rangers got over one of the last remaining hurdles heading into training camp by re-signing restricted free agent defenseman John Moore to a one-year deal according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post. The deal will pay Moore $850,500, Brooks reports and he’ll be eligible for salary arbitration after next season.

Moore appeared in a career-high 74 regular-season games for the club last season and recorded 15 points while logging an average of 15:20 per game. The 2013-14 campaign was Moore’s first full season with the Rangers since coming over in the trade that sent Marian Gaborik to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013.

Moore has been a serviceable low-pairing defenseman for the Rangers since he arrived and played in 21 games during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final last year.

The 23-year-old defenseman was the Blue Jackets’ first-round pick in 2009, but hasn’t quite lived up to the billing. With the Rangers just getting one full season of service from Moore, this is definitely a prove-it contract for a player that still probably has a fair amount of potential.

With Moore signed, the Rangers have pretty much a full boat for training camp. There may still be some tryout invites to go out, but at the very least the Blueshirts’ blue line should be settled with Moore’s contract complete.
