Report: Hawks targeting Stan Van Gundy

The Atlanta Hawks seem unlikely to retain Larry Drew as their head coach, and general manager Danny Ferry is focusing on Stan Van Gundy as Drew's successor, Yahoo! Sports reported on Friday.

Ferry has contacted Van Gundy, but the two have not yet met in person regarding the job, according to the report.

What is just as intriguing, according to the Yahoo! Sports report, is that the Hawks will try to land free agent center Dwight Howard, hoping that Van Gundy would help lure him to Atlanta. Van Gundy coached Howard with the Orlando Magic for five seasons, but Van Gundy was fired following the 2011-12 season. Many believed Van Gundy's dismissal was an attempt to appease Howard.

Apparently Howard now appreciates Van Gundy as a head coach, despite their clashes together in Orlando.
