Report: Gentry candidate for Clippers job

Former Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry is a candidate for the Los Angeles Clippers head coaching job, ESPN Los Angeles reported.

Gentry told ESPN's radio affiliate in Los Angeles that he is interested.

"If you look at that job, it's probably the best one out there," he said of the Clippers' vacancy Thursday. "When you take into consideration the talent level that they have and what they did this year."

The Clippers went 56-26 and received the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, but fired coach Vinnie Del Negro after getting ousted in the first round.

The Suns and Gentry mutually parted in January after the team's slow start. Phoenix did not get any better, finishing with a Western Conference-worst 25-57 mark.

Gentry is 335-370 overall, 158-144 over five seasons with the Suns.
