Former USC coach Steve Sarkisian will meet with Alabama officials this week about joining the staff as a special assistant to the offense, several outlets have reported.

Fox Sports’ Clay Travis first reported the news during Alabama’s 52-6 win against USC.

Sarkisian was fired from USC last season amid reports of alcohol abuse that was affecting his work. Sarkisian, who sued the school for wrongful termination, went to rehab and was set to spend this season as an analyst for Fox Sports.

TMZ Sports caught up with Sarkisian at LAX in August and Sarkisian said his time away from the game had given him perspective.

“Life’s good,” Sarkisian said. “Just taking some time to focus on myself and do the things necessary in all aspects of my life. Been fortunate to have that time to do that and I feel really good.

“I think the biggest thing is to reevaluate yourself and you look at all aspects of your life and that’s what I was fortunate to do and it’s really paid off for me.”

If Alabama does hire Sarkisian, he would be the second former USC coach to join the Tide’s staff. Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was fired from USC in 2013. Kiffin and Sarkisian were co-offensive coordinators under coach Pete Carroll in the mid-2000s.
